The Foundation supports efforts to help Tompkins County become a fully sustainable community – environmentally, socially and economically. Priority is given to projects that incorporate a collaborative approach to reaching sustainability goals. Priority is also given to projects that utilize inclusive approaches to address racial, economic and other forms of inequality.

Energy & Climate Change projects support community reductions in greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging the development of green and LEED Certified buildings, renewable energy, energy efficiency and the sustainable practices of institutions.

Environmental Health & Toxic Threats includes projects that enhance knowledge and prevention of toxic environmental stresses and other threats to human health.

Greening Systems promotes projects that strengthen and re-localize the food system, promote the use of smart growth practices, protect ecosystems and enhance efficient transportation systems.

Education & Behavior Change projects promote action-oriented approaches that address lifestyle changes such as promoting waste reduction, the reuse and recycling of materials and making greener purchasing choices. These projects are directed to K-12 schools and the general public.
